New Apple technology can retire “home” button on the iPhone
The new patent may be a signal that the button will actually be eliminated, since the 3D Touch technology can be installed across the screen
After rumors that the home button of the iPhone would cease to exist, the company registered a new patent that describes the mechanisms and possible uses of integrating a force sensor, such as 3D Touch and Touch ID in the case of Apple.
According to Apple Insider , the new invention proposes installing a mutual capacity sensor architecture below the touch sensor ID. It is a resistant element such as an elastomeric material, whose structure can also serve for the placement of capacitive electrodes.
The solutions are similar to 3D Touch, which creates a capacitive sensor panel integrated with the phone’s display. The difference is that the new patent incorporates biometric reading with this technology, which is already applied across the iPhone screen.
That is, in other words, the new Apple patent may be a signal that the button will actually be eliminated, since the 3D Touch technology can be installed across the screen. It would be perhaps a replacement button for a specific area of the screen.
Thus, the cell could be unlocked with a stronger touch, such as the user can also respond to a message with a selection of intelligent answers.
