Rockstar is working on a new game, and it’s almost ready to tell us about it, according to an earnings report with parent company Take Two interactive. The GTA developer has long been rumored to be working on a sequel to the critically lauded Red Dead Redemption, and a recent spike in speculation has led some to think that we might be hearing about it soon.

“Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon,” Take-Two said in the earnings report, via Gamespot. It could be referring to more content for the absurdly profitable GTA Online, but that stuff is a bit par for the course at this point. The tease certainly seems to indicate new games, and I’d make a bet on a new Red Dead Redemption title before a new GTA, which we likely won’t see for a while. The rumored map for a new game leaked online a little while ago, suggesting that the series would be going back in time to an earlier period in the American frontier.

Take Two has already told us that its coming to E3 “in a big way.” We already know we’ll be seeing Mafia 3, which the company seems to be banking on as a highlight of its fall schedule. Historically, Rockstar doesn’t show much at E3, preferring to deal with their own announcements on their own schedule. Nothing is impossible, of course, but I’d be somewhat surprised to see Red Dead show up at the big show, especially when you consider that Take Two has no press conference of its own — if it did happen, it would likely have to be part of either the Sony or Microsoft shows. It would definitely make a splash, however.

Whatever happens, we likely wouldn’t see the game until latest 2017, at the latest. Take Two has already revealed its full list of titles for fiscal year 2016, and there’s no Red Dead on there. Red Dead Redemption 2 is also sort of a placeholder name: Red Dead Something Else Beginning With R seems much more likely.
